Here is a screenshot of SiteMeter for AirMaria.com of the last 100 visitors this morning. Most are from the US but also many from Europe and Asia. Of note is Malta, Taiwan, Tasmania, Hong Kong, New Zealand, Sri Lanka, Russia, Puerto Rico, several in the Philippines, Australia and India. Usually, but not today, we get a few from South America and Africa and MidEast. But one place we almost never get a visitor from is China despite the fact that China has by far the most DSL connections in the world, even more than the US! This is no doubt due to the Great Firewall of China that blocks all sites that promote dangerous ideas like Catholicism. Those few that do come to visit are only on for a second probably because they are terrified that government internet monitors will alert the storm troopers.

Well, not really,  it is actually a site that is not run by Google, but rather hosts a customized search powered by Google. I am sure the name and logo was meant to be provocative.

In fact, in the time it took to wright this article (and get the RSS auto-feed from Friar Tech to AirMaria, my new experiment) the name has changed and so has the logo to:

and I am redirected to cathoogle.com. Perhaps there was a bit of a trademark contention with Google … you think? Well, I guess I can get used to it.

They describe themselves as follows:

Cathoogle is powered by Google using “safe search” technology, it produces results from all over the internet with more weighting to given to Catholic websites and sites containing content relating to Catholics and Catholicism, at the same time our search engine eliminates sites and web pages containing adult themed and explicit sexual content from web search results.

So not only does it have advantages as far as being a morally cleaner search, it also has a practical aspect where it focuses in on Catholic sites. Thus, if you want to get Catholic information on a subject, this search tool gets right to the sites that you want.

For example if we search for the word “cross” to get information on the Cross of Christ in the normal Google Search, we get some references to the crucifix but many more references to “Red Cross” and “Cross-Culture” and other uninteresting and dubious things. But if we search in Cathoogle all the top ten references are focused right in on the Catholic meaning of the Cross.  See for yourself:

This, of course, is one of the great features of the blog system and is a way of dramatically increasing viewership.  So it behooves you to frequent the prominent blogspots and read and view the various posts and include links to pertainant posts in your new post.  Further, the ping comment is basically a link from their site to yours and this increases Google ratings.  Your link to them, in turn, increase their ranking.  Also the general traffic of pings on their site increases the rate at which their site updates which also increases their Google rankings.

It must be clear that this should not be a link to the home page but rather to a specific post because the automatic comment must be associated with a post as all comments on blogs must.  Also, including a link in a comment to your own post will not show up as a ping in their comments.  Only by putting a link in the body of your post will you get a ping. 

Note: It is important to make sure the post you are writing is free of errors because although you can modify your post on your own site, the portion that shows up in the ping comment on the other site will not update, all the original errors will remain!

This describes how to transfer Visual Communicator (VC) templates from one computer with VC installed to another in order to get many of our content contributors to have the same look to their studios and the same sound and look to their Intros and graphics and such in order to have the appearance that our friars are using the same studio when in fact they are dispersed across the globe.  It also has a work around for an inherent difficulty in transferring projects in VC.

What is a template?

A project with standard graphics and music and “studio” for a series of shows that has no content recorded yet.  It is a blank project from which new shows of a consistent look can be made.
